Pauline Boty was a founder of the British Pop Art movement. I have always found her art most intriguing and typical of 60's pop art culture. She was Britain's most notable female pop art painters. She died aged 28 in 1966, and I dare say her name was largely forgotten outside the art world.
Thankfully, now exhibitions at the National Portrait Gallery and the Mach Schau Gallery, are set to bring her work back to life, and hopefully to a wider audience. |
